Alabama Sheriff Association opposition.....Guns in cars bill stalls in Senate The Alabama Senate worked into Thursday evening debating a bill to allow people without pistol permits to carry loaded pistols in their cars. The bill by Republican Sen. Scott Beason of Gardendale drew extended debate from senators concerned about it and about other bills farther down the Senates work agenda. A law Beason got passed last year allows people without a pistol permit to carry a pistol in a vehicle provided it is unloaded and out of reach. But people currently need a pistol permit to carry a loaded gun in a vehicle. Beason said it is time to extend Second Amendment rights. The Alabama Sheriffs Association opposed the bill, saying it would create safety issues and cause fewer people to buy pistol permits, which help fund law enforcement programs.
