Alamo City Comic Con: Attended as a small, make our own items, - TopicsExpress

Alamo City Comic Con: Attended as a small, make our own items, vendor. As part of a fan group, and as a Media partner. (Open disclosure: I will add that I know many members of staff, volunteers, other vendors, attendees, etc so I realize that greatly affects my overall experience of the weekend as does having a media pass). 4.5 out of 5 Pros: Arrived at the loading docks Wednesday shortly after they opened and breezed right in. Checked in with Izzy and the others at the desk quickly, and my location was where I had paid for last year and we found it easily. The guy next to us spent a day in the wrong spot, and I had another friend who did is well so I am aware this was happening, but we didnt have issues ourselves. Very happy with the spot we had, there was a good amount of traffic, our items that we had spent late nights finishing up (clothing, jewelry, purses, hair accessories) were well received and sold well. For the 4 of us sharing a booth, this was the biggest show by far we have ever vended at and it was hard work but we were happy with our sales and the reception we received. Around the corner, our media team/fan table also was well visited and in a good spot. As media, I cannot express enough gratitude to Philip and Victoria (I think?) for the hard work and time they put in with everyone in the media room. From helping to schedule time for interviews, to bringing people in for them, to giving us a moment of WiFi, they were aces! It could get a bit hectic in there, some celebrities decided to not come in, but that typically isnt a staff issue. As an attendee, I appreciated the wider aisles and the fact that they were able to spread out into the additional halls. I picked up about 14 new pieces of art from artist alley (where I usually spend most of my money) and a few items from the vendor hall and I am really happy with thems I came home with. Cons: I experienced some issues with finding out information on signing up for the Friday costume contest, but even though staff didnt have a lot of answers on that for a few hours, they still stopped and took time and did there best to help me. I had a panel I was supposed to be on cancelled for Sunday, but I dont really have a lot of information on what happened there so I cant really make a call on what exactly happened there. It was a bummer, but panels get cancelled and changed at many events and there was other things to occupy my time with, so I rolled with it. The areas they had people lining up to get in, especially on Sunday morning, were chaotic if you were in Hall A and trying to get in and out to get ready. Everything else that was a negative throughout the weekend was not controllable by the con itself: downtown parking is what is and we tried our best to prepare for it, the loading dock is controlled by the convention staff so we just avoided it at load out Sunday and put as much as we could on the dolly then carried everything else out to the parking garage - we were out of downtown by 7 and were happy with that. Some celebrity handlers werent so pleasant with the public, some artist and vendors were a bit awkward to talk to and made me uncomfortable, but again, that isnt under the cons control really. I and my team just had a great, exhausting weekend. Made some good money, some excellent memories and we will for sure be vending again next year.
