Alan Ames writes ,jim listens to beck ??? or was that humah? It was humor. The things the man says are so absurd that my brother listens for the entertainment value. The other day I heard that Beck was complaining about the government controlling the lives of people. But that as a Mormon, he is told which building in which he is permitted to attend services. I find that very amusing. --- To the point that it makes me laugh out loud. In Florida I listen to TV preachers for the entertainment value. If you wrote what they say on a piece of paper, it wouldnt make any sense. The power is in the sincerity and timing and force of the delivery. It really doesnt have to say anything. I heard of one woman, the mother of a woman I know here in town, who jumped to her feet while in an audience listening to one of Hitlers speeches. She didnt understand a word he was saying, but the force of his delivery brought her to her feet. Laughter is good for whatever ails you and pulpit pounders make me laugh. I enjoy seeing them pace nervously about, waving the Word above their heads as they shout nonsense. Or quote book and verse. You have heard me say that I could do what they do. For years I stood on stages all over the country and said silly things that evoked laughter. If I were younger I would consider a career as a TV pastor, using Elmer Gantry as my model. Anyone who listened carefully would laugh at what I said. But it wouldnt keep me from becoming very wealthy because some would take it at face value and pull out their checkbooks. You dont need to believe what you say to make a lot of money in the religion business. If any of those TV preachers believed in or followed the teachings of Christ, they wouldnt be able to milk feeble minded old people out of their social security money.
