Alan Jacobs has written a beautiful, contemplative, and deeply sad essay, on a memory of racial suspicion and self-defense from long ago. It is a must read. As one of many thousands who (no doubt arrogantly) thinks he has a respectable opinion on the Martin/Zimmerman tragedy in particular, and on race in American in general, it is good to be reminded that such judgments are--while perhaps sometimes unavoidable and even necessary--nowhere near sufficient to the depth of the unknowns around us. Thank you, Alan. theamericanconservative/jacobs/the-walking-boy/
