Alan Pardew – explains the three defeats Alan went into some detail as to why that has been the case, and we will add that the last two games at St. James’ Park have ended up as 3-0 wins for the Black Cats: “I think the three defeats are games where we made mistakes, although the intensity of the last performance by Sunderland was greater and I don’t think that will be the case on Sunday,” “This is a different team, even though there are a number of players who were involved in the fixture last season. The intensity we need from all 11 players, we didn’t have last time. But I don’t fear that this time around, and that gives us a better chance of winning the game.” “We also weren’t patient enough. They played a similar game to how they will play on Sunday, playing deep and looking to hurt us on the break. Their average number of passes before a goal was two, and that tells you everything about the way they capitalize on your errors.” “We’ve got to make sure we don’t make errors, but I would also say that in the last game, their intensity was better than ours. But we’ve got different personnel now, and a different mood, and I think we can match that.” “If we do, we’ll have a good chance of winning.” Two of Newcastle fans’ major issues with Alan Pardew have been our poor cup runs, and also our weak performances and record against Sunderland. Alan went some way to correcting that with reaching the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup this season, but we were well beaten on Wednesday night at White Hart Lane. Pardew’s record against Sunderland is played 7, won one, drawn 3 and lost 3. And in those games we have scored five goals and conceded eleven. It doesn’t help Alan that the last derby game before he arrived was when Chris Hughton was in charge and we beat the Black Cats 5-1 at St. James; Park on October 31st – Halloween. In that game the great Kevin Nolan, our captain at the time, scored a hat-trick and the Black Cats scored their goal in stoppage time. Amazingly Chris was fired just over five weeks after that famous win, when Alan Pardew was brought in. A win would be great tomorrow afternoon, and would lift the mood of the Newcastle fans.
