Alan Turing, persecuted and misunderstood. He didnt just think outside the box, for Turing, there was no concept of a box. Without this exceptionally brilliant man, we very well may have lost World War II. Turing, while working with the team at Bletchley Park, was instrumental in helping to crack the German codes facilitated by the Enigma machine. Think how much different (and horrible) the world would be if the allies had lost the war (starting with the loss of The Battle of the Atlantic). Computing as we know it is based on seminal concepts and principles conceived by Turing. We, and all those coming after us, owe this man a tremendous debt of gratitude. Winston Churchills famous quote referring to the young RAF pilots who fought The Battle of Britain is equally well applied to Turing and the team from Bletchley Park... Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few. Thank you Sir Richard for using your prestige to help bring attention to this brilliant man!
