Alaska-Talk ‘N Text showdown banners opening day slate of PBA Commissioner’s Cup The Alaska Aces will embark on their title defense bid in the nightcap of the opening day of the Commissioner’s Cup when they take on the Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters on March 5 at Mall of Asia Arena. The Aces will feature reigning Best Import Robert Dozier against a Tropang Texters squad bannered by NBA D-League standout Richard Howell. The new-look GlobalPort Batang Pier, featuring debuting coach Pido Jarencio and new court general Alex Cabagnot, will play in the first game of the tournament against the Air 21 Express, who will trot out its own fresh face at the point guard spot, Jonas Villanueva. The Batang Pier will be led by former Barako Bull import Evan Brock, while the Express will pin their hopes on Ivory Coast native Herve Lamizana. The San Miguel Beermen will make their PBA return two days later on March 7 when they take on the Meralco Bolts at SMART-Araneta Coliseum. With new coach Biboy Ravanes and newly-acquired star guard Sol Mercado, the Beermen are hoping to make their mark as the iconic brand comes back to the league. Crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, featuring high-scoring import Leon Rodgers, will make their debut that evening in the second game against Barako Bull. The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, a finalist in the ongoing PLDT Home DSL Philippine Cup, will plunge back into action on March 9 in the first game against Barako Bull at the Big Dome. Rain or Shine will be backstopped by New York native Alex McLean, who is known as a banger down low. Their finals opponent, the San Mig Super Coffee Mixers, will be the last team to make their Commissioner’s Cup debut when they battle the GlobalPort Batang Pier in the second game on March 12 at SMART-Araneta Coliseum. The Mixers will feature James Mays in their bid to make their third straight finals appearance. Fans won’t have to wait too long before witnessing another Manila Clasico showdown between the Mixers and the Gin Kings on March 16 at the Big Dome. The PBA All-Star Weekend, which will happen at Mall of Asia Arena, is slated from April 3 to 6.
