#Aldai Member of Parliament Cornelius Serem has expressed concern over the alarming rate of boys who drop out of school as compared to girls. Speaking at #Kapsabet Boys High School during Nandi County Women Representative Zipporah Kering daughter’s homecoming, Serem said that if the trend is not checked, the number of educated men would drop sharply. He revealed that most of the young men who operate ‘boda bodas’ are school drop outs. This has reduced the number males in schools adding that it has contributed to girls outnumbering boys in schools. He urged parents, teachers and all stakeholders to encourage boys who are still in school to understand the importance of furthering their studies and the benefits that accompany completion of studies. “If the trend of young men dropping out of school in search of easy money persists, there will be no educated men in the county, something that will negatively impact their future,” Serem said. He urged the government to help them ensure no dropouts engage in riding bodabodas. Traffic police can effect this by checking national identification cards to identify them. The legislator also urged politicians to keep politics out of the Education sector. He further asked leaders to give priority to the County’s education by assisting needy boys to further their studies and prepare them to fill leadership positions in the future.
