Aldershot Raceway – Sunday 30th March 2014 Meeting Preview The Aldershot Raceway season opener is finally here after we left the venue back in September to start the winter series racing at Wimbledon Stadium. But now the winter has gone, spring is right around the corner and Aldershot Raceway is calling “let’s go racing!” Aldershot Raceway fires back into life with a four formula, 12 race bonanza to start off the season with a perfect mixture of smash ‘n’ crash Bangers, high speed non-contact 2.0 Hot Rods, 2.0 Stock cars putting the bumpers in and Junior Rods as the youngsters also return to Aldershot to play. The Bangers return to Aldershot for Round 1 of 13 at the venue and we are pleased to welcome back Inchcape Ford Bracknell as the sponsor of the Bangers Track Championship this year. The 2013 series was won by #426 Mark Pope who beat #529 Keith Conlon to the title by only 12 points. Mark has also had success at our Wimbledon Stadium during the winter and he will be planning on bringing his skill and a little bit of luck back to Aldershot with him and see if he can start where he finished off back in September at the top of the points after round 1. This meeting also offers the Incarace licenced Banger boys and girls a chance to earn their bonus points towards qualifying for the World Championship at Foxhall Heath Stadium, Ipswich on Saturday 29th November 2014. Banger racing around Aldershot Raceway is always full of action and the first meeting will open up the season with a bang! The 2.0 Hot Rods return to Aldershot to continue their points scoring campaign towards their World Championship which this years’ title race taking place at Spedeworth’s associated track Tullyroan Raceway. Aldershot Raceway is one of the smallest ovals in the Spedeworth / Incarace family and with the narrow straights and tight bends the track is the perfect testing ground to show how skilled non-contact drivers need to be to take to the outside line to pass another driver to make their way through the field. Add to the track conditions the high speed produced by the 2.0 Hot Rods and the mixture can produce some of the best non-contact racing you will see around the Aldershot oval in a season. Semi-contact stock car actions is provided by the 2.0 Stock Cars. As with the Bangers and 2.0 Hot Rods the 2.0 Stock Cars have supported Wimbledon Stadium well over the winter however a lack of cars forced the cancellation of the formula at Foxhall Heath Stadium, Ipswich on Saturday 15th March. We are pleased to announce however, that there is a healthy number of 2.0 Stock Cars booked in for Aldershot Raceway on Sunday 30th March already. The shape of Aldershot Raceway offers challenges to the 2.0 Hot Rods but to the 2.0 Stock Car drivers the raceway provides opportunities to wipe out the opposition and storm through to the front and secure the win. Every meeting this season at Aldershot Raceway will feature a Spedeworth / Incarace junior formula and for the raceways season opener the Junior Rods will take to the tarmac and contest the third round of the GT Cambridge Challenge Series. Round two took place at Pr1mo International Raceway, Northampton on Sunday 2nd March where #16 Jimmy Newbon was victorious in the two heats but was denied the hat trick by #252 Callum Searle who beat Jimmy to the line meaning Jimmy had to settle for second place. However, current point’s leader is neither of these youngsters. #55 Freddie Walker leads the way after two rounds but with Jimmy in fourth place in the points standings and Callum in fifth the two youngsters are catching up to Freddie and with #441 Reece Legrice in second and #636 Louis Skoyles in third at this early stage in the GT Cambridge Challenge Series there is no clear cut leader so everything is to play for at Aldershot Raceway. Racing starts at 1pm and turnstiles open at 11am. Facilities include a seated Grandstand, banked terracing and hot dog/hamburger stalls. Don’t forget to visit the ice cream van and track shop too! There are also toilets and ample car parking and free spectator access to the pit area. We look forward to you joining us Sunday afternoon at Aldershot Raceway!
