Aledo Education Foundation Prize Patrol arrived with beating drums, clanging cymbals, cheering cheerleaders, the Aledo Bearcat and numerous administrators and committee members to award teachers a total of $22, 557.92 in grants. Gracefully Strong was written by our counselor, Mrs. Kirkpatrick, and the Stuard counselor, Mrs. Stark. This program is for girls in the 4th-8th grades. Its mission is to show girls they are wonderfully made and that inner strength and self-worth are discovered and nurtured through healthy physical and emotional choices. The girls will participate in confidence building activities that emphasize healthy body images, goal setting, communication skills, inner strength and grace for the slef and for others. They were awarded $3,380. Two first grade teachers, Mrs. Babcock and Mrs. Davis, authored the grant Magical Moments of Miniature Mathematicians. They were awarded $5,173.05 to establish Guided Math, Math tubs and Math through Technology in the classroom. The goal is for the students to feel self-confident in their math skills while being life-long mathematicians. We need to fill their minds with mathematical skills and problem solving strategies to meet the needs of this ever-changing and challenging world. iCreate, iTeach, iLearn, iLead was written by 4th grade teachers, Mrs. Andringa, Ms. Simons, Mrs. Tyer and Mrs. Young. Their grants totaled $6,814.31. Innovatively blending technology and leadership is the goal of this grant. 4th grade students will use technology to share their knowledge with younger students. 4th grade students will work with teachers and administrators to create virtual tours of our campus through augmented reality. Used as video cameras, audio recorders and multimedia notebooks, the focus will be on what is going into the iPads, rather than what is coming out of them. Mrs. Matthews, our librarian, Mrs. Wright, Ms. Simons, Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Babcock wrote Make it @Your Library Makerspace! They received a check for $7,190.56. A Makerspace is an area where students gather and collaborate to CREATE. Products are student directed and made using technology and/or other available materials. As these products are created, students are engaging in the highest form of learning, critical thinking and problem solving. Our Makerspace is located in the library. These funds will be used to purchase a 3D printer and cartridges, littleBits electronic snap modules, MaKey MaKey computer keyboard creation kits, Lego Education class sets and KNex class sets. THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY, ALEDO EDUCATION FOUNDATION!
