Alex Opendi, the father of the state Minister for Primary Health Care Sarah Achieng Opendi, has refused to hand over office of the Chairman Eastern Division land committee in Tororo Municipality. Opendi and his committee, whose term ended in December 2010, have continued to transact illegal land transactions using the old stumps for the past two years. Opendi says he will never hand over office to the newly appointed committee arguing that he was appointed by his daughter while still serving as the state minister for lands. Sarah Achieng also doubles as Tororo district Woman MP. Anew committee headed by Augustine Okileng was nominated by the Eastern Division council and forwarded to the district council for approval and appointment for a three year term with effect from March 27, 2013. But since assuming office, the committee Chairman Okileng said work has been frustrated by the old committee headed by Opendi.
