Alex Update Day 25: Alex has rocked her Physical and Occupational therapy and has made a lot of gains with her speech therapy. She has finally started initiating conversations instead of just answering simple questions. She has some minor problems with her balance, but that should get better with time. She has regained most of the weight she lost and gets to go home Saturday - Woo Hoo! Shell continue her therapy close to home on an out-patient basis. Physically speaking, shes almost back to normal. She has some memory problems and gets confused from time-to-time, but shes making improvements. From a neurological standpoint, theyve begun seeing her at the Epilepsy Clinic at Vanderbilt, and the doctor believes that, because her seizures are not well controlled by her medicine or implant, and are so difficult to stop, they want to do studies and see if she may be a candidate for surgery. Her doctor believes she would benefit from having a Seizure-Alert dog and will give us the documentation we need to get that process started. Were both ready to be home. Alex has already told me she wants Dominos Pizza when we get home, and all I want is my coffee. I miss my Maxwell House coffee. :) Thank you everyone for your continued thoughts, support, and prayers.
