Alex bounced back in style after the opening day defeat on Saturday. Out of the blocks from the start Alex showed their intention on 5 mins when Daz Braithwaite drove forward from the back beating two Utd challenges he played in Ryan Kirby who struck but hit the bar Matt Toplis kept the rebound alive he found himself on the ground from a poor challenge and the referee pointed to the spot. Ste Simpson confidently dispatched the penalty for 1-0. United responded, breaking down the right wing the cross came over as Alex looked for offside a Utd runner was allowed a free shot but put it over the bar. Next move saw Luke Aspen pick up the ball in midfield he found Simpson who layed off to Toplis, he crossed but the ball went across goal without anyone getting the touch to convert. Alex were dominating with Chris Martin and Aspen impressing in the middle. Braithwaite forced the keeper into a good save, Simpson turned on the edge of the box to shoot just wide of the upright. On 15 mins the pressure paid off when Tom Egan sent Simpson down the left flank he crossed to the back post for Kirby to tap in for 2-0. Simpson again was provider this time from the right he crossed only for the keeper to fumble leaving a gift for Aspen to tap in for 3-0. Utd only produced a couple of half chances one from a ball over the top causing slight confusion at the back which Joe Wilkshire came to claim and a long range effort which was well wide. More efforts for Alex went off target through Ross Hushon-Brown, Toplis and Martin until the 40th minute when Simpson squared to Egan to slot home the move he started. HT 4-0 Utd responded to a half time grilling from their manager and came out a better side. The game went flat for the first ten mins. Jonny Murphy won a free kick outside the box only for Egan to send wide of the target. Finally on 60 mins Martin won a corner Kris Hamer crossed it was cleared back in his path to send over a pin point cross for Simpson to head home. 5-0 Utd had pace up front and broke through on 70mins latching on to a through ball the no.9 struck it across Wilkshire into the far corner. 1-5 Alex were not finished yet a good passing move saw Carl Fletchers header saved and Kirby strike tamely when clean through. Player coach Andy Tootell won a corner on the right. Kirby crossed Tootell rose above the defenders and headed into the top corner. 6-1 With 5 mins to go Egan picked the ball up in midfield unchallenged hr tried his luck from 35 yards and in flewinto the bottom corner 7-1. In the final minutes Alex were caught dwelling on the ball in midfield a quick through ball for Utd was converted for 7-2. FT 7-2 Alex man of the match was awarded to Ste Simpson Andy Tootell said It was the lads responding to the poor performance from Saturdays opener. The workrate throughout was excellent especially in the first half. The talking was much better and everyone worked for each other. If we keep this attitude in every game it will serve us well for the season.
