Alex was recently diagnosed as having tapeworms, which comes from eating frogs and lizards. Medication was prescribed to him, however he refused not only the medication, but also his dinner for two days. We were concerned about his health so he was taken to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay where volunteer veterinarian Dr. Boorstein examined him. We did x-rays, bloodwork, and removed a polyp that was in the back of his throat. He looked good overall had mild tartar and mild kidney disease. He also has arthritis in his wrist as well as spondylosis for which he already receives joint supplements. Alex will spend a few days in the Cat Hospital where his food consumption can be closely monitored and his medications can be administered. Once he is feeling better he will go back out to his enclosure which the volunteers and interns are sprucing up for him.
