Alfie found his forever home with Mum Denise, Penny his feline - TopicsExpress

Alfie found his forever home with Mum Denise, Penny his feline companion and Aarany his little canine buddy who sadly got her wings shortly after they became friends and has now crossed the rainbow bridge. Here is Denises adoption story Let me tell you a little story of how Caroline and Matt from Noah’s Bark introduced me to Alfie. In August last year my 13 yr old foxy-cross Heidi passed away of old age, peacefully in her sleep. That left my 8 year old jack Russell Aarany very depressed and not her normal self. I thought it might pass, but no, she became very quiet and subdued so I thought I would find her another playmate to keep her company. I started my search in November, looking at a number of pet rescue centres. After many efforts of contacting centres and trying a few meet and greets with other dogs and Aarany, we still couldnt find a suitable companion for her. I made a few calls to Caroline at Noah’s Bark. Late December, a handsome terrier-cross, Alfie, became available for adoption. I explained to Caroline what I was looking for and why. She agreed to let me meet Alfie. On Saturday 13th December, Matt brought Alfie over to my place to meet Aarany, with the view of a trial week staying with us. This gentle little boy won our hearts, he had such a calming effect on Aarany and myself, it was amazing. So he was allowed to stay with us. He also got on well with my cat Penny, who is normally very apprehensive around other dogs and children. The week started very well, with Aarany enjoying her new friend. Unfortunately during the week, Alfie alerted me that something was wrong with Aarany. She was having a seizure. As I nursed Aarany, Alfie was trying to comfort Aarany too. I took Aarany to the vet, who checked her over and took some blood and urine samples for analizing, to determine the cause. He suspected either epilepsy, a bleed in the brain or a brain tumor. On Friday 19th, Aarany had a further 2 seizures in the afternoon. Again Alfie alerted me. After the 2nd one, as I was nursing Aarany on my lap trying to calm her, Alfie went in to the kitchen, somehow opened the kitchen cupboard and got a bag of doggy treats which he put at my feet. He just looked at me and Aarany as if to tell me to give some to Aarany to make her better. I took Aarany back to the vet who told me that the results of the test were negative for epilepsy. He gave me tablets to help with the seizures. More frequent seizures occurred Saturday and Sunday morning, Aarany was deteriating, losing her balance and becoming more restless. I took Aarany to the emergency pet hospital on my vet’s advice. Sadly, after being examined, the worst was suspected…a brain tumor. The kindest thing to do for Aarany was to stop the suffering. It broke my heart. When I arrived home alone, there was Alfie, full of hugs and compassion. A beautiful old soul who seemed to understand. Even that night he checked Aarany’s kennel twice looking for her. Each time he would come back to me for a pat and cuddle. I want to thank Caroline and Matt for introducing Alfie to me and assure you that he means the world to me. We are enjoying each other’s company, going for many walks, meeting with other family members doggies and having many cuddles together. Just a couple of photos of Alfie and his new friends Cheers Denise
