Alice Herz-Sommer, at 109, was the oldest piano player on the planet; and simultaneously, the oldest Holocaust survivor. Before being captured by Nazis, she was already a celebrated pianist and inspiring musician. At the camps, she was given the chance to live- she was a member of an entertainment program; essentially, Nazi propaganda, to show the outside world that the Jews and undesirables were being treated properly. Here, she played piano for other prisoners. Her take on the world is breath-taking. When we play, it cant be so terrible! She sees music not as an escape, not as a distraction, but another world. Music is a dream. The life in her voice reminds me that our time is limited. We must live *every* moment. Hear it from a woman who has lived 109 years worth of moments. It still tears me up to hear her talk. Rest in peace, Alice.
