Alice Herz-Sommer, the oldest-known survivor of the Holocaust, who is also the subject of a documentary nominated for an Academy Award, died Sunday in London. Herz-Sommer died at the age of 110 at a London hospital, her daughter-in-law Genevieve Sommer announced. She was hospitalized Friday. More than 30,000 Jews were killed at the Theresienstadt concentration camp in what is now Terezin, Czech Republic. Herz-Sommer survived by performing piano recitals. Herz-Sommer’s husband was killed in the Holocaust, but she and her son were among the 20,000 survivors who were liberated by Soviet troops in 1945, according to publicity about the film. That movie, “The Lady In Number 6,” is nominated for a best short documentary Oscar. (From CBS Los Angeles online) KA youtube/watch?v=8oxO3M6rAPw
