Alices Restaurant Massacre is an odd war protest song an 18 year - TopicsExpress

Alices Restaurant Massacre is an odd war protest song an 18 year old Arlo Guthrie wrote in 1967 to tell the tale of a Thanksgiving dinner gone wrong (actually the days following a Thanksgiving Dinner gone wrong) and how it kept him out of the army (the former greatly exaggerated and the later not at all true). It soon became The Vietnam War protest song. Those of us old enough to remember the Viet Nam War, know people who sang, or claimed to have sung, or said they would sing if drafted, Alices Restaurant at intake stations, in protest, when their number came up. The only thing I can attest to is that I had friends who knew every line of the 18 minute and 34 second song in case they were drafted! Its a fun song that also happens to be history. So, heres the singalong version. Enjoy!
