Alien Alert!: 1 John 3:1 Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God! Therefore the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. (NKJV) The 60’s TV program Lost in Space had a robot that could detect when aliens were present. He would start flaying his arms, flashing lights and pronounce loudly “Alien Alert, Alien Alert!” In our verse today, John first expresses his amazement over the greatness of the Father’s love that was freely given and claimed us as His children. Secondly, he identifies true believers as aliens because of our citizenship being with Christ. In the South, we have been known to make fun of how Northerners talk and act. We very quickly determine that they are aliens because they “ain’t from around here”. The world will react toward Christians in the same way. You may experience “Alien Alerts” in your interactions with family, friends and co-workers today who do not know Christ. Be encouraged in knowing that you are an alien in a foreign land that was sent by his Father to do a sometimes thankless job.
