Align released some interesting G3 gimbal tuning instructions this morning. There has been some questions on PID gain adjustment since the release of G3 gimbal. Below is one of the tried and true method for your reference. 1. Use 50° black dampeners, or something even harder to provide better wind gust resistance during fast forward flights. 2. Ensure all screws are tightened on the gimbal. Double check again! 3. Make absolutely sure gimbal is balanced on all axis. 4. Now the P, I, D, and Power parameters can be adjusted. Regardless of camera make/model (preferably heavier than 500g), adjust the PID/Power values for Pan and Roll axis to these values (should remain constant): Pan: P=88 I=10 D=100 POWER=100 Roll: P=80 I=10 D=80 POWER=80 With those parameters fixed, tuning is as simple as adjusting the tilt PID/Power values based on camera size! For example, GH4 with 12-35 lens we recommend these values for tilt: Tilt: P=50 I=10 D=50 POWER=50 For lighter cameras or shorter lenses, adjust P, D, and POWER values lower, or add additional weights to keep those values high. Higher P and POWER values are preferable for optimal performance. The goal is to reach a point where P and POWER values are as high as possible without motor oscillation. To test proper gain values after adjustment: With the gimbal powered on and initialized, push the camera downwards 90° on the tilt axis until lens is looking straight down. Then let gimbal return to neutral position by itself. If any motor oscillation is observed, lower the P and POWER value more, repeat the test, until oscillation disappears. Try not to go lower than 40. This should give you a fairly stable video stabilization and provide good wind gust resistance. Note: After the above tuning process, should minor imperfection in video still exist during actual flights, DO NOT CHANGE THE VALUES ON PAN AND ROLL AXIS! Continue making minor adjustments to the tilt axis PID/POWER to achieve optimal results. In addition, should camera placement require extending lens ring forward, try to keep the extension distance as minimal as possible. Again double check for any loose screws! Both of these are factors contributing to difficulties in achieving consistent optimal tuning.
