Alinta Energy applauded for stand-alone Solar Thermal Study Port Augusta City Council welcomes the decision by Alinta Energy to focus on investigating a stand-alone solar thermal power approach to its Port Augusta Power Stations. As part of Stage 1 of the feasibility study, the ‘Options Study and Siting Study’ results follow the investigation of whether the Solar Thermal Study being conducted by Alinta Energy should focus on a stand alone solar thermal system, or a hybrid model based on coal-fired power generation. Port Augusta City Manager Greg Perkin says the decision clearly shows that the future of power generation in Port Augusta is to be based on natural, non-polluting, renewable resources. “Council, Repower Port Augusta and the Port Augusta community have been pushing for this outcome to achieve a healthier outcome for our community while maintaining employment for our skilled power station workforce,” Mr Perkin said. “A solar thermal power station would further reinforce our claim as an AridSmart City that demonstrates how the use and re-use of natural resources is the smart way to go.” Mr Perkin congratulated Alinta Energy on its decision and also thanked Repower Port Augusta for their dedication to lobbying for a new renewable energy source for power generation in Port Augusta. alintaenergy.au/about-us/power-generation/port-augusta-solar-thermal
