Alix Beaujour was born and reared in Port Au Prince, Haiti, moved to the United States in 1978. Alix sees art as a unifying force for all humanity and therefore dislikes the label black art when referring to the works of an artist of African descent. Alix believes that to categorize art by the color of its makers skin or the frequency of people of color as its subject matter, unfairly limits and defines the work and its audience. Alix is an extremely versatile and talented artist who has chosen to utilize various mediums to depict the life-like folklore of the African, West Indies and American cultures. He finds this medium more expressive than oil and uses it to portray the beauty of women in the diversity of rolls they play.
