All I keep hearing (well, per Deadline) is how summer sucks and theres a major slump. Meanwhile, I have to say -- without yet having seen GUARDIANS, even -- this is probably the best summer, quality-wise, in I dont know how long. Ive seen more movies multiple times than I have since I was a teenager. APES, 22 JUMP ST, GODZILLA, EDGE OF TOMORROW, FAULT IN OUR STARS, BOYHOOD, OBVIOUS CHILD, CHEF, all varying degrees of good to brilliant. Id rather have this many solid, quality films than a bunch of shitty Michael Bay-y movies that made a shit-ton of money. If it means less movies, maybe even lower budgets, but higher quality, how can you argue with that?
