All, Im looking for some opinions on axes. Ive decided that Im going to purchase a gransfors but Im having trouble picking one. Ive narrowed it down to three which are; - small forest axe (most popular for bushcraft and general axe duties). - carpenters axe (flat cutting edge and straight handle, best suited for notching logs/cabin construction type chores). - hunters axe (rounded and polished poll for skinning animals, fairly straight handle with knurled handle for better grip with wet hands, and a blade designed to be used as a knife which more closely resembles a hawk than the other two). So, Im leaning towards the small forest axe as it is a good compromise to all the features offered. However Ive grown accustom to the straight handles while wood working so the other two have some appeal. Im not a big fan of the rounded poll on the hunters axe and will probably file it flat if I purchase this one as I skin deer very easily a number of ways with out banging on the hide with anything and do plan on driving tent stakes and such. Im sure some of you guys have some insight into these products and perhaps are very happy with your selections or wish youd gone another route? Thoughts?
