All Indians feel pride when we hear Saare Jahaan se Achha Hindustan Humaara! Hum bulbulein hain iski, yeh Gulsitaan Hamaara! But do we realise why this verse of a poet makes us feel proud and elated? Why do we consider India or Hindustan, to be the best in the world? What really makes us so proud?Is it our economy? Is it our military?Or our religious thought? No! It is the very idea of India: a Secular country where all religions, where all philosophies are not only tolerated but welcomed. It is the country of the Rig Veda, the land of Lord Rama, the land of Krishna and his Geeta, the land of Gautama Buddha, Lord Mahavir and Guru Nanak. It is a country of Asokas dhamma, Akbars Sulh-i Kul,a country which fought for its place in the sun against the British Colonial Empire under a leadership which included people from diverse religions,castes and backgrounds:The Rani of Jhansi, Tantia Tope, Begum Hazrat Mahal and the last Mughal Emperor Bahadur Shah Zafar.A land which was purified by the blood of its martyrs: Tipu, Bhagat Singh, Bismil, Ashfaqullah and thousands of others like them. it is a country prefered by all races and religions which guarantees freedom of thought and expression in its constitution itself. A land which the Aryans turned into a Devabhumi, migrating all the way from Europe and Central Asia and on whose doorsteps, marauders like Alexander and Chingiz stopped. It is a country which gave birth to four of the major world religions:Buddhism, Jainism,Hinduism and Sikhism ;which was the epicentre of the philosophy of Love:Sufism & Bhakti in the Middle ages when the entire world had been swept up by ignorance,religious bigotry and intolerance.A land of one of the highest mountains and mightiest rivers in the world,and a country renowned for its food,music,arts,culture,dance and its rich flora and fauna. This Rich Heritage,Composite Culture and Philosophy Of Peace and Rationality, a testimony of the intermingling of many streams of thought, has ensured India a unique place in the world.This is our country.This is what makes us Proud to be an Indian wfacebook/proudindiaglobal
