All Ireland Champion ship finals Young Northern Irish shearer Stephen Morgan made it four-from-four when he continued an unbeaten an unbeaten start to the UK and Ireland shearing season by winning the All-Ireland Junior title in Gorey, Co Wexford, today. Morgan, 18, from Kilcoo, Co Down, won first-up in the Donard Shears Leinster junior chammpionship on May 11, and followed it with victories in the Royal Ulster junior final last last Friday (May 16), and last Sunday’s Connacht Spring Show junior final. Today’s win came in a four-sheep final in the ICM Dome on the second day of the 16th Golden Shears World Championships. Beaten to the finish by Ireland shearers Conal Diver and Jason McNiece, who finished blow-for-blow in just over 10min 45sec, Morgan easily compensated for a fractional time-points deficit with easily the best quality points, and won by a huge margin of more than 14pts from eventual runner-up and fellow Northern shearer Christopher Coulter. Coulter’s quality suffered with his pace and he was placed sixth of the six finalists. Ireland claimed the other four shearing titles decided in the morning programme, Oliver Daly winning the senior final, Nigel Clarke the intermediate title, World Championshjips representative Peter Heraty the blades tile, and Colette Deegan the Queen of the Shears women’s shearing.
