All Melrose High School parents just received this email. This Yik Yak app is horrible. Cyber Bullying was already hard enough to control and then this app came out. Didnt the college graduate creators of the app think this might happen? What exactly WERE they thinking? A message from MELROSE HIGH SCHOOL Dear Parents/Guardians of Melrose High School Students: We are writing you with a very important reminder about social media safety. It has come to our attention that several students have been using a new anonymous social media application called “Yik Yak.” Some of our students and even staff have been the target of bullying and/or harassment within the last 24 hours. Please be advised that we are obligated under the state’s Anti-Bullying Law to investigate all claims of bullying and/or harassment and in some cases turn the investigation over to the Melrose Police Department. Students who violate our bullying and harassment policies will be subject to the appropriate disciplinary action. Please help us in fostering good decisions around social media, promoting tolerance, and keeping our students safe. District Attorney Marian Ryan and Assistant District Attorney David Solet will be presenting to parents at Melrose Veteran’s Memorial Middle School on March 25th at 7:00 pm. The topic is Learn the secrets to helping teens safely and legally… Navigate the Cyber World. Their presentation on internet safety will include real life cases and a question and answer period. We hope you will attend and learn how to help your child safely navigate cyberspace. Thank you for your attention to this very important matter MHS Administration
