All Shefford & District AA stillwaters are fishing well at the moment. James Fairey fished an overnight session at The Airman and saw no action during the night before a 7lb 3oz bream picked up one of his baits during mid-morning. Then just as James was thinking of packing up in the afternoon he had a solid take on his cat rod and during the next twenty minutes the fish went on half a dozen long runs in different directions before James safely netted a catfish weighing 42lb 12oz. This was James’ second catfish of the year and both have weighed over 40lbs. Several other catfish have been caught during the week as well as carp to upper doubles. The larger fish in Willington Lake have finally started to feed more consistently with multiple bags of carp, several bream around the 9lb mark and tench to 8lb taken from several areas of the lake. Sean Moyser enjoyed a productive weekend session landing mirrors of 20 lb and 17lb 2oz, two commons weighing 16lb each and a tench. Meanwhile Broom Lake is responding to a wide variety of fishing methods. Good bags of roach and skimmer bream are being taken on standard ‘match tactics’, with some good and bream and tench also showing, with Alec Davies landing a tench of 7lb 4oz. Anglers targeting the carp are also enjoying success with plenty of upper doubles landed during the week Shefford & District AA membership details for the 2014/15 season and application forms are now available from the clubs website. New membership books should be available from local tackle shops from 1st May and will be valid for fishing from the date of purchase through to 15th June 2015.
