All and all, a good day for the New York Yankees and a good trade - TopicsExpress

All and all, a good day for the New York Yankees and a good trade deadline. Today they acquired INF Stephen Drew and INF/OF Martin Prado for Kelly Johnson and Prospect Peter OBrien. OBrien has great power, but has a poor average, on base percentage less than .300 which is very bad even for AA, and poor plate discipline without a real position. They also designated Brian Roberts for assignment who has been dreadful of late and especially bad on the field. They also saved $250,000 on him because two more at bats granted him a bonus. Yankees get McCarthy-a number 3 caliber pitcher, Headley, Capuano, Drew, and Prado who is under team control through 2016 so he can continue to help us for years to come. Prado is also a former all star, only 30 years old, and finished in the top 20 of the MVP twice (2010 and 2012.) Hes batting .270 this year which is a major upgrade over Ichiro and Roberts. All this and the Yankees did not give up any major prospects. They kept their three first round picks from last year (Judge, Jagielo, and Clarkin) and top prospects Severino, Sanchez, and Refsnyder which leaves great talent in their farm system. Pineda is starting a rehab assignment and could be back within 2-3 weeks. If he can come back, it is like we are acquiring a top starting pitcher in August. Tanaka is more of a question mark, but if he can come back also then I think we will make the playoffs and we could make a run. Kuroda, Phelps, and McCarthy have proven to be reliable and good starting pitchers for us. Its Greene and Capuano that are question marks and hopefully we will be able to replace them. Yankee fans have to be excited we improved our team this year while not making our future team worse.
