All gatherings I sponsor or host and most of the gatherings I - TopicsExpress

All gatherings I sponsor or host and most of the gatherings I attend are Potlatch Gatherings...At one time here in the US Potlatch Gatherings were forbidden by law because during potlatch gatherings anything a person had that they did not need ot want or if they had more than they needed they were taken to a potlatch gathering and given to someone who wanted them..This of course did not bid well with the European new comers because they were accustomed to living in a materialistic society where when people had more than they needed they would trade or sale it to another person.. Over the years I have attended or participated in many American Indian functions and ceremonies..The most common American Indian function which is known by most people worldwide is the pow wow but there are many other ceremonies, festivals and functions many people, including some modern American Indian people are not aware of.. My favorite American Indian ceremony is a Potlatch Gathering which in my opinion is more of an authentic American Indian ceremony than a pow wow...To me a pow wow is designed more for none American Indian participation than tribal members..I became familiar with what is known as a Potlatch Ceremony when I was in the army and stationed in Alaska and in Washington state.. I am a believer in sharing what I have with others! I believe if I have more than I need I can share the left over with someone else..We Cherokees have a very old saying which goes If you have beans and corn you have enough food for your family needs and if you also have potatoes or meat you have enough food to invite someone to share it with you My folks believed in tat tradition and I have lived by this creed all my life and continue to do so even to this very day.. People think my birthday celebration is strange because of my habit of giving presents to others on the anniversary of the day I was born.. If I am ever plan to be in your area I will support and sponsor a Potlatch Gathering ceremony which includes drumming, dances, story telling, trade fair and teaching various crafts...In my opinion a Potlatch Gathering Ceremony is the true and authentic American Indian way of uniting under peace and love.. This is some information on my favorite Native American Indian Ceremony The Potlatch Gathering which I obtained from the below indicated web site: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potlatch
