All kinds of sounds float up the small canyon behind our house. Distant sounds of music from the county fairgrounds, crashing sea waves, barking sea lions, cars on the freeway, sirens, accompanied by coyote howls and yelps. For the last two days we heard “Rex – COME!” Our neighbor called for her dog, a Bouvier des Flandres last seen chasing a coyote down the canyon. Early this morning I heard her voice calling “Rex”, then a shriek followed by “Oh my God!” A voice of a man, muffled but sounded kind, then her voice floated back up the canyon “Oh, Rex! I’m SO GLAD to see you!”
