All my life, I have been a Liberal. I have always thought that the welfare of people and the Planet should take precedence over Profits. For a long time, I felt that Capitalism and true liberal values cannot coexist. Capitalism requires exploitation. I have come to the conclusion that Capitalism is not the problem. Greed, Indifference, and Political Inequality are. Capitalism can bring about Prosperity, properly regulated and balanced by an egalitarian political system, a good social welfare system, a good educational system, strong unions to give workers a voice in working conditions, and an enlightened environmental policy. Without any of these moderating forces, any system will end up with all of the money and the power flowing to the top, and the people and the planet suffering, often leading to Revolution, and the heads of the Plutocrats, the Oligarchs and Dictators on pikes, and general Chaos and Suffering for the average person. The only question in my mind is, will we achieve this, on a worldwide basis, in time to save the Human Race from Extinction. My unwitting Collaborators in this statement are my Dad, David N.
