All of the leading bookmakers in Ireland have Dublin and Kilkenny as favourites to be celebrating ultimate success in September 2015. Kerry were yesterday given a huge tonic for next year when Tommy Walsh stated his intention to return home after his five-year sojourn in Australia. With Gooch Cooper making his way back to full fitness, Kerry’s forward division will have an even more formidable glimmer to it next summer. Despite this, Jim Gavin’s Dublin side are still odds on to be lifting Sam Maguire for the 25th time in the county’s history. With Ciaran Kilkenny and Ger Brennan to come back in 2015, Paddy Power have them available at 5/4. However, Paddypower did shorten Kerry’s odds after yesterday’s announcement. Shortened Kerry were 4/1 last week with Ireland’s largest bookmakers, but have been shortened to 7/2. Dublin are 11/8 with Boylesports, SeanieMac and Ladbrokes, while Kerry are 7/1 with Ladbrokes, and are available at 10/3 with Boylesports and SeanieMac. The top five in Gaelic football are identically placed across all four bookmakers. After Dublin and Kerry, Mayo, Cork and Donegal are the next best fancied. The fact that Cork have a number of very promising young players works in their favour, but it is still a surprise to see them placed ahead of this year’s beaten All-Ireland finalists Donegal, who are as far back as 11/1 with Paddy Power. Armagh, Tyrone, Galway and Monaghan are some of the counties who come next on the lists of the respective bookies.
