All of this countrys racial anger is really upsetting me. I have so much to say but do not want to offend anybody. It would be ignorant of me to say that race has had nothing to do with the recent officer involved deaths; but let me give you my non-racist point of view: If you are doing something wrong, against the law, or are even not doing anything wrong and are questioned by a police officer, do not resist. Cooperate. Answer his or her questions and move on. You should have nothing to hide if you are free of guilt. If you feel the officer is targeting you then make a complaint. Do not act out as if you are above the law. It will get you in trouble every time. Last night I was introduced to the hashtags #WhitePrivilege and #CrimingWhileWhite so I did a little reading. I am not exactly sure of the intention of these hashtags or who started it, but I took offense to them because I have never experienced privilege just because I am a white man. I have never been let go in a traffic stop because I am white. I have never been given priority nor have I received a free ticket because I am white. I just try to do the right thing. In the past 30 years I have been pulled over five times and have received five tickets. I didnt talk back. And I didnt give any attitude. And guess what? I went on my way without being shot or arrested. Now if I was of color would my life be different? I am sure it would. Would my attitude be different? I certainly hope not. I was raised by a mother and father who disciplined me into knowing right from wrong. If I was bullied I stood up for myself and didnt play victim. I have always looked at people and learned who they were by listening to them and determined who they were based on their character. I think we truly need to all get along. We need to know what is right, what is wrong, and what consequences will be made BEFORE we act. We need to know each other. All of us. We need to love each other. All of us. And we need to communicate with each other. You are depriving yourself of knowing some pretty great people out there by not taking a moment, just one moment, to get to know a person you would not normally associate with. I guess I went off on a roll there. I sincerely hope I did not offend anybody with my comments. Let me leave you with a quote from one of my favorite human beings...
