All of us at First There Was Harmony, were stunned to learn of the passing of someone very special to all of us on the administration team. (Thanks to the Emmy In Memorium Segment 8/25/2014.) We remember Marilyn Mitzie Welch. We could not sum up her life and her passing any better than the Carol Burnett Fan Website. ********************************************************** Remembering Mitzie Welch - carolburnettfan/ It is with a heavy heart that we announce that the wonderful Mitzie Welch passed away on Tuesday, June 10. We have lost an extraordinary human being and brilliantly talented woman. Mitzie is survived by her husband, Ken, and two daughters, Julie and Gillian. Both Mitzie and Ken were in the entertainment industry for more than 50 years. As a brilliant music composer/lyricist duo, they wrote, composed and produced specials for Carol Burnett and a broad range of artists, including Placido Domingo, Barry Manilow, Whoopi Goldberg and Dolly Parton. Together, Ken and Mitzie won more than 14 Emmys for writing, for music and lyrics in TV specials with Carol, Julie Andrews, Barbra Streisand and others. They also wrote musical numbers for the Carol Burnett Show for nine seasons. Mitzie was adored by everyone. She wrote the most delightful holiday newsletters, which she addressed to all of her “Dear Ones” and signed off with “Happy New Year, Whatever Year It Is.” In This Time Together, Carol wrote: “My dear friend Mitzie Welch told me that when she’s going to sleep every night, she counts at least three Gratefuls for the day she has just lived through.” We’re all so Grateful for Mitzie Welch. Somewhere tonight they’re playing her songs. Our hearts go out to her family, to Carol and to all who knew and loved her. ******************************************** We at First There Was Harmony would like to share some photos of Ken and Mitzie with some familiar faces - Barry Manilow, Suzanne Somers, Lorna Luft, Keely Vasquez and Melanie Nyema. Please keep her family in your thoughts, and if you are so moved, please consider a donation, as requested by the family, to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinsons Research. https://michaeljfox.org/get-involved/donation.php?fr_id=2380
