All of us at the British Embassy were deeply saddened to hear of the death of Bassem Sabry yesterday. We will remember him for his brilliance and thoughtfulness as an analyst, observer and activist on the Egyptian political scene, for his wonderful sense of humour, and for his warmth towards those of us who were new to Egypt. Bassem represented the very best of his generation and offered so much hope for the future Egypt. We will miss him. The embassy offers its thoughts and condolences to Bassem’s family at this difficult time.
