All of us have egos. Definitely including those of us who work in creative fields. And we frequently need thick skins for all the knocks we get -- especially if you read comments on websites. Its always nice to hear good things about yourself and your work, whether its something youre doing now or something youve done in the past. Sometimes it seems like my days at Lucasfilm, working on Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back, were a hundred years ago. Sometimes it feels like barely a years gone by since I left. My original boss at Lucasfilm, Charles Lippincott, basically created modern movie publicity and licensing. There are things now done routinely that Charley came up with to sell Star Wars (particularly as the studio didnt really provide the financial support that was needed and it was a time when no one was waiting for a science fiction movie). I cant tell you how much Ive always respected Charleys opinions. Theres been a conversation going on elsewhere on Facebook about the marketing of Star Wars and Charley had this to say earlier today: Craig Miller Im going to really try and convince you that the most important thing you did was the Star Wars fan club. Thats not to negate other things you did, which were probably more creative and fun, but as far as movie history, your contribution to building the Star Wars fan base made Star Wars an evergreen franchise. Yep, Ive always respected Charleys opinions. ;-)
