All projects on the ground under GECTDT are doing good so far. The water cooler is already brought to the campus and is in place this Monday. They are waiting to have a plumber to hook up the water line. That may have already happened yesterday. It is funded by Anup Karim foundation run by Ranjith AR and friends. The bathroom work, we have agreed w Soni Gopalan and Ramesh for 5 lakhs for mens, he is getting the contract ready. He will be starting the mens toilet work on Monday. He agreed to all requirements that we need automatic 10 year warranty battery sensor urinals-7 of them. We are getting a spare sensor incase one fail. This jaguar urinal and built in sealed-sensor is solid, that is why they are giving 10 year warranty or 300,000 flush for battery. It is not connected to electric line at all, so it works during power failure. All floor and wall tiles are vitrified blue and white in picture. Granite countertop and a self closing faucet, solid toilet seat, large toilet bowl, composite partitions, stainless steel attachment of urinal partitions, aluminum windows, quiet exhaust fans, electric hand dryer (we will buy separate) in lieu of towel bar, composite front door all these are agreed for bathroom. Soni and Ramesh were in campus yesterday to give us an estimate on the ladies bathroom. Soni Gopalan is really an active Gect well wisher. He is a genuine guy, who is also construction manager himself and lives very near campus. He is two years junior to us. Sreelaxmi CH of 4th semester is going to scout all department toilet facilities and give us a report. According to her, the EC and Production toilets are completely messed up. Third item is the fruit tree planting as a part of our landscape initiative. We are supporting our junior guy Manoj Kumar. They have already planted 50 so far. He wants to go as many as 500. Plus Manoj is one tree guy, will not let any tree die. We estimate about 75 k for providing cage, 150x500=75k. Haridas Ramakrishnan, our junior guy is also very enthusiastic about this project. They have some issue of locating optical fiber cables, they didnt work last weekend. It will continue next weekend onwards. Fruit tree project is another version of landscape project. We still have to plant some Red palms, Heliconnia and Mossanda in front of the main bldg. Wall painting: the fruit tree project came in between, painting will start as soon as the trees are all planted. Students are all excited. They had a large number of volunteers for digging and planting. The AC project is one of Prof. Krishnakumar project to provide AC in Computer lab with over 100 computers. It is going to be funded with 10 lakhs from 82-86 batch and the rest from GECTDT. I have got report from Prof. KK, that Bichu Raj and another staff of Mitsubishi visited campus Monday. Dipu Manuel and Bichu Raj are Gect alumnus, both work for Mitsubushi AC and electric. I have been communicating with them for about a month. We were able to get the Mitsubishi team quick to the campus. We want to add insulation, lower ceiling, repainting etc than a bare minimum that was originally planned to do. We got email from KK after meeting w Mitsubushi team. He is very impressed. Those guys will also hire few interns from campus. Their office is in Kochi. That was the update of all our projects. Bathroom is one thing I am rushing. I am very hopeful, they will start this monday. Regarding 82-86 batch, their addition will be a huge moral boost. Thank you all members for the 82-86 batch. Meantime I have registered Gect development trust corporation in florida. Also got EIN number, applied IRS for 503c charity formation. So if any charity contribution is tax deductible presently for 2014 tax. Sasi Eswaran is working on a write up about GECTDT for IRS. Main points are 1. How gect is beneficial to US- talk about alumnus working in US. 2. History of our college- an old premier institution. 3. The activities we already did and the amount of contributions we already received - mainly from all other people other than in US. IRS want convincing that this is genuine effort, not a tax evasion scam. People who are getting big chunks of money by inheritance or selling their own corporations or by becoming an IPO, or wining lottery, everybody can donate significant money to GECTDT. This way you dont have to pay tax for your donation and hence lower your tax bracket.
