All ready for the studio tomorrow. Very excited to see what we can get done at 2Fly. Practised with Kirsty today and it looks like the songs were going to tackle tomorrow will be The Promise, Balham Road and if time This Time of Year. Will be taking plenty of photos and making a studio diary / video to put up later this week with an update of how the album is coming along. Over the past 10 months things have kind of grown organically and I have had time to assess what Im doing with this project. The album is a collection of stories, some based on real events, such as Balham Road, which is a song based on the events of the Balham Road tube station disaster in World War 2, and some of which are fictional. When I look at all my own favourite songwriters, the one thing they have in common is that theyre all story-tellers. Its a really hard thing to do and the easy option when you get a good melody is to write another song about your own life, but I really wanted to try and write an album that was a collection of stories and that each one captured the atmosphere needed to tell the story. Well have to see how fast we get things done tomorrow, but the album should have the following tracks: The Promise, Balham Road, This Time of Year, Delhi Rising, Trouble on the Water, The River, Anytown, Free as a Bird and Winter Sky.
