All rested and ready to go again after a successful NZDAC. The highlight of the weekend would have been meeting Kate our international competitor from Australia who we made Knight available to her for the weekend. WE were contacted a few days before CHB if we had anything that might be suitable for Kate to run as one of the dogs been made available was in doubt due to injury. After a bit of discussion and a few emails going back and forth it was decided that Knight would be made available as Allan was judging and Knight was going to be shared between Hayley and myself. A training session was arranged for Wed where Kate and Knight were introduced and had some bonding time and some short courses set up. Knight and Kate hit it off immediately as Knight can be known to take advantage of his critieria and be strong willed at times. They practiced the cross-over as it is not a piece of standard equipment in Australia and spent a bit of time doing Knights contact behavior as Kate is used to running contacts. Knight has a 2 on 2 off in a chin so a little work was done on his criteria as he would try to keep his bum in the air and push his boundaries a little. Kate handled him beautifully and after the first day you could see a great team forming. There was only one occasion I saw that there was a miss- communication where Knight gave her some back - chat it was so funny. Day 1 Knight achieved a pass in gamblers a great start, Sat 9th of 5 faults, Sun 5th place clear, Mon 4th clear intermediate and 1st place in Maxi Intermediate final it was a stunning round. Knight had 2 other rounds with 1 rail down in which he would have placed 2nd both times. I think one more day Kate and Knight would have pushed for even higher placing. I would like to thank Kate for her awesome handling of our boy and looking after him all weekend it was a pleasure meeting you and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience as we have both been on the other side. I know Kate was looking for a 25kg suitcase to take some extra luggage back home.
