All right, Earthlings, it is my intention before Im done here to write the sequel to Sir Ebenezer Howards Garden Cities of To-morrow and hopefully build one. There are lots of futurists out there, however, there arent any others with 25 years of building experience who actually know how to build everything theyre talking about - as Howard also did. Here’s the Weisman 5-Step Plan to Save the World… 1- Decentralized civil authority. Replace government and bureaucracy with organization. Adopt the folkmote system based on the 20-30 person organizational units of friends, family and neighbors in free and voluntary association networked together by unwritten mutual aid agreements small enough to employ consensus decision-making. 2- Decentralized energy infrastructure of biogas and gasification of local, annually renewable organic wastes, plasmagasification of non-recyclable MSW, augmented by regionally appropriate solar thermal, geothermal, hydro, wind and tidal power. 3- Garden Cities. Make cities beautiful, desirable places to live with mid-rise, mixed use buildings that are easy walking distance to home, work, school and cultural attractions and open green spaces. A balance between minimum footprint to save transportation and transmission energy, and open green spaces for aesthetic beauty. 4- Public transportation, walking and bicycling together with fleet electric vehicles for unscheduled commuting and rail and water shipping for intracity and intercity travel. 5- Replace global economy with local economy of small businesses and guild system of individual artisans and cottage industry producing hand crafted items and artwork that cannot be mass produced.
