All right. Sick call is over. Time to suit up and crawl back in to the belly of the beast: Overly Brokedown VA Medical Center. My stomach is feeling better. Not 100%, but good enough to get there. It was probably just some bug I picked up at the hospital, maybe from that Terminal Clean I did last Friday in the colonoscopy clinic. Chief nurse said there had been a nasty virus in there. Or it could have been any one of the 15 hospital-acquired infections Im exposed to every time I crawl in to the beasts belly to do my housekeeping. I could have emailed my primary care physician about my pain, but he probably would have referred me to the Acute Care clinic at the emergency room and as Ive said before, Id rather chew my arm off than go to the Overly Brokedown emergency room. They probably would have referred me back to my primary care physician anyway, after making me wait 5 or 6 hours for THAT pass-the-buck move. Ive complained several times in writing to the Director of the hospital about this pass the buck crap but nothing changes. I get flowery letters back from the guy who answers the Directors mail, letters assuring me that all is well at the VA. I see this guy, this All Is Well guy, in the hospital hallways almost daily. He used to smile at me and call out my name but now we just nod at each other warily. He knows Im not satisfied with his answers, that I have gone to the patient advocate with my complaints, and that perhaps I am smart enough to go elsewhere, too. He drives a fancy sports car. I drive a beat up old pickup. He knows I am not in his league, yet I persist.
