All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means God is with us). Isaiah 7:14 A child will be born for us. A son will be given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. He will be named: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6 During this time the names of Jesus have special significance to us! Today, more than ever, its important to recognize and realize that God is truly with us. That is the reason He sent His son Jesus to become the way, the bridge to the Father. Immanuel literally means he pitched his tent among us, he settled, he made his dwelling, his home with us, leaving behind His glory! Isnt it amazing that His love, passion and commitment to us would go that far? And check out His other names. After talking so much about who God is to us as our Creator, our Father, our Husband, doesnt it make it that much more meaningful this Christmas to know He is the Mighty God (the one who holds our lives in His hands, He is in control, we are safe in Him because He fights our battles and no one can surpass His infinite power and wisdom), our Everlasting Father (the one who loves us unconditionally, protects us, cares for us, instructs, corrects and forgives), our Prince of Peace (yes, Prince Charming Himself, who brings comfort, security, stability, freedom, joy) and Wonderful Counselor (the friend who will always have a listening ear, a shoulder to cry on, the one who will speak sweet words of hope and encouragement and breathe life back into you in your moments of loneliness and desperation)? For many of us Christmas is a very nostalgic time, longing for those who are no longer with us, our minds are flooded with memories of what once was and no longer is. For many Christmas is a painful, lonely time because there is a void. God sent His son to fill exactly the type of need, emptiness and desire you have today! Youre longing for purpose? Look to the Mighty God! Youre looking for the love and tenderness of a parent? Run to the Everlasting Fathers arms! Youre searching for companionship, security, a sense of belonging? Find it in the Prince of Peace! You are seeking someone to listen to and understand you? The Wonderful Counselor is just a prayer away!
