All right well i think i have held my tongue long enough!!!! And would like to share a few words of my own opinion on the situation....i really, in all my years in the waukegan school district, would not believe that this would happen to my community!!! It saddens me bc i became a teacher to prevent situations of this sort and to make sure all children have an education and know that they are smart and can do anything they put their mind to!!! I became a teacher: because in 1st grade while i was in North Chicago school district i went through the same thing these children are going through in waukegan... A STRIKE!!! Once the strike was over my 1st grade teacher picked up reading and writing lessons right were we were supose to be and not reviewing what was lost during the strike... developmentally that hurt my ability in reading and writing, which hurt my ability to love school and want to learn and want to be smart and know that I can do anything I put my mind to!!! So i know what will happen to ALL THE CHILDREN IN WAUKEGAN SCHOOL DISTRICT....THE TRUE QUESTION IS WHO ARE WE HURTING THE MOST HERE!?!?!....... After going through 2nd grade without help i hated school and just barely got by. my 3rd grade teacher MRS.YOUNG showed me what a true teacher is all about!!!SHE ACTUALLY WANTED TO HELP ME DO BETTER READ BETTER HAVE BETTER CONFIDENCE IN MY SELF be who I was ment to be....she helped me read and write and in the end helped me to LOVE TO LEARN AND WANT TO LEARN!!! SHE IS THE REASON I AM A TEACHER TODAY... THE REASON I CHOSE TO TEACH EARLY CHILDHOOD BECAUSE LEARNING TO LOVE TO LEARN STARTS SO MUCH EARLIER THAN ANY PERSON CAN IMAGINE....I MIGHT NOT BE TEACHING IN WAUKEGAN BUT ONE DAY MY CHILD CARE CENTER WILL BE IN WAUKEGAN BECAUSE I will be giving back to my community!!!! We are all teachers and what are we teaching our children with this strike!?!?! (A Question to think about)it wasnt any easy educational road for me and Im sure there will be plenty of children who will have a similar situation as I did after this strike...but will there be a Mrs. Young for them all....i hope so!!!! I fear for the children the most but i understand and fully support THE WAUKEGAN TEACHERS because THEY DESERVE SO MUCH BETTER THAN WHAT THEY ARE GETING (ALL TEACHER DO) #keepupthegoodworkteachers!!!!
