All scan results are back and WAYLON IS STILL NED...NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE!!!!! I cannot begin to tell you how nervous I have been these last 2 weeks worrying about the results of these tests. After hearing the results and being told we can go home on Friday...YES, WE WILL BE HOME ON FRIDAY...it took a minute and then sunk in as I was going over with Alison, our nurse practitioner, all of the supplies and meds we need. Suddenly, I couldnt concentrate enough to even think about what we needed and just started crying. After meeting with Dr. Federico, the entire team came into our room and sang a super cute No Mo Chemo song, gave Waylon a shirt signed by everyone and threw confetti all over us! It was such an emotional moment to know what it signifies; to know what Waylon endured to reach this monumental milestone; to know that after all of the pain and suffering, he is going home a HEALTHY 6 year old boy! Weve been here since Feb. 16 and have been through so many ups and downs, but in the end I cannot even begin to express my gratitude I have for Dr. Federico and St. Jude for saving Waylons life! HE IS CANCER FREE! I want to shout it from the rooftops. So what does this mean for Waylon and our family? It means we get our life back and most especially Waylon gets his life back; he gets to be a regular kid again. Will we worry about relapse? Absolutely, it will always be in the back of my head that he could relapse. After all, relapse is common with stage IV neuroblastoma, but I dont want the thought of that to overshadow our happiness. I want to do as Tim McGraws song says Live Like You Were Dying. Waylon has a kidney function test tomorrow and he will also have a platelet transfusion. Our flight is at 10:55 on Friday and we should be in San Antonio at 5:00pm. He will have to go to University Hospital in San Antonio on Monday for a lab check because its likely that hell need platelets again. Once we know that he no longer needs transfusions, then we can have his central line removed. We will be back in Memphis at St. Jude for his 1st set of scans off-treatment on January 6 & 7. We are looking forward to getting home and unpacking for good! Thank you so much for all of your prayers and support through Waylons journey. Many of you have been following his story since day one and having such a great support system has gotten us through. Love, Stacy
