All the best to our friends who start school today! In the spirit of the first day of school, here is Orientation Day from the Homeward Bound anthology. Enjoy!! Orientation Day As solemn old woman hovers in search of hope over fallen lover’s grave The hollow wind of sweet memory blows heavy tears away Sixty years, maybe a moon more They stood, two as one, in a most perfect union unspoken Yay, though unrelenting reaper has come to take his dues, Neither he nor dust can conceal the beautiful story of days old, But not yet… Aged lines run wisely across his forehead; the undoubted narrative of a life fully-lived Blue waters massage their feet-his and beloved other’s- As if they pay homage to roads travelled. Sharing a longing gaze into the horizon, They see the same image they have seen in each other’s eyes since times early; They see eternity But not yet... Awe spills from hearts and lips to fill the room. She holds life in her hands; life’s most perfect miracle. His heart brimful with pride, his unrelenting stare pierces the gaze of new born baby He glances from mother to child, then mother, and places his hand on her shoulder To feel her pulse harmonize the melody of the purest love song. But Not yet… Agony streaks punctuate his voice as he speaks, “Farewell my dear”, the heavy junction they have dreaded Since the realization descended upon them Woe, mean fate! Won’t be long, beautiful friend, til the sweet nectar of blessed days Is ours to sip on again… Let the dreams we chase take us to distant lands until It returns us to the shrine upon which we left our hearts. But not yet… And tonight, as early winter stars peak menacingly behind their heavenly curtain…. An eerily enchanting essence wanders seamlessly through the halls A battalion of young minds braces for the brief defining future in the company of strangers Alone he sits, enthralled and nervous. She stands tall in her glory, long hair caressing her smooth face Striding across the room with grace reserved for angels, She illuminates his world with one turn of her eclipsed glance He saw her once. He saw her forever… She has not seen him yet…
