All the sudden Ive started to see many articles on FB pop up basically criticizing this whole ice bucket challenge thing that has suddenly taking off across the world. The sources of the articles question why people feel the need to make a video of themselves rather than just donate.....or even worse people thinking that others are making these videos to avoid donating which is not accurate. The whole point (in fun) is to do whats been challenged by another (which continues the promoting & offering) and then make a smaller donation rather than choosing not to do it and paying $100. If you know me Im certainly not one to post much let alone a video of myself but for something of this magnitude why not? But therein lies the problem. All the sudden something gets too popular and not before too long negative people have to come along and turn it into a bad thing. Heres a positive movement that has brought in $22.9 million dollars in donations to ALS in the last 22 days but in all of 2013 only brought in $23.5 million. Are their some people who love the fact that they get to post yet another video of themselves by doing it?....of course, but in a time when the economy is still struggling, the news being one negative or depressing story after another, we should embrace things like this. After all this is one of the positive powers of social media. If you havent had the time or just havent wondered where this all started then I ask you to take a look at this video link below https://youtube/watch?v=yCoKB_tU9ng or simply google Pete Frates. As someone who has an uncle with Pompe and a brother in law with MS, both muscle debilitating diseases that are potentially fatal I am in awe about how positive people in that situation can be and they are at the mercy of donations allow for research. In my opinion theres not enough of these Ice bucket challenge phenomenons to go around social media. If all we have to do to bring awareness to all our fatal diseases is look like a fool for a few seconds on video and contribute what we can at that time then we should all be those happy fools. $22.9 million isnt coming from the ones who choose to pay a $100 to not contribute. Stop acting like youre too cool to do something so light hearted otherwise youre doing the exact same thing that youre claiming youre against.....youre just on the wrong side of a good thing.
