All the worlds a stage , And all the men and women merely players, They have their exits and their entrances , And one man in his time plays many parts, William Shakespeare I first met Lydia and Gary Wyatt in 1989 , when their stage was in the cafatorium of Danforth campus. They had some ceiling tiles off and wires hanging down for their sound and light man to control things. Being a coach and keeping late hours I would be there during rehearsals so I would sit and watch and learn from the best . I was still a young teacher and marveled how they demanded the best from their students and they got there best and all the while showing love and compassion for their students and their profession. Some times it was tough love but always love . Even though mr. Wyatt would have that scowl on his face and barking out directions . They influenced me on how I treated my students and athletes and my expectations of them. I was fortunate to go see Gary a couple of weeks ago and he was so proud of the pond and water fall he had built and all the other improvements to there home place . I joked with him how he couldnt stop building sets. J. Gary Wyatt was not only a directors of plays but a director of lives, he taught life lessons . He may have passed from this world but he will live on through all his students that he has touched over the years as they live their lives with the work ethic he instilled . I know I will always carry a little of him with me always . Thank you for all that you gave in this life , and the joy and laughter and love and the dedication to the students of Texas. You will be missed Love you Gary and Lydia. Coach Smith
