All this Fraxinus confusion has got me interested in sharing some good books to learn ID from. Some recommended resources, my favourite monographs for tree ID by authors who seem(ed) to really understand what they were writing about. There are some other good ones too of course, but these ones stand out to me. For eastern North America. -Petrides, Trees and Shrubs -Symonds Tree ID and Shrub ID books -Harlow Textbook of Dendrology and Fruit and Twig Key -Michigan Trees by Barnes & Wagner -Silvics Manuals vol 1 & 2 (for habitat) -Shrubs of Ontario by Soper and Heimburger -Peattie Natural History of Trees for lore/habitat
