All this humidity in the air lately reminds me about the effect it - TopicsExpress

All this humidity in the air lately reminds me about the effect it can have on your guitar. Typically during Summer your guitar can take on moisture which causes the wood fibres to expand sideways across the grain structure - much like the wooden door frames in a house, they swell, making it hard to open/close the door! This can, amongst other things, make the soundboard (face) of your guitar bulge and make the strings rise so high that its uncomfortable to play. During Winter theres a lower relative humidity and your guitar can shrink, so much so that your fret ends can poke out of the side of the neck and scratch/cut your hands up when playing :( Guitars that get left out of their case, and even worse - near a heating system, will be affected much more severely. This is a natural phenomenon, one that effects every guitar, every guitar maker, and every guitar player, Ive seen enough to know that it can really cause severe defects in the instrument! Theres not much you can do to stop nature, but you can take precautionary measures - keep your guitar in its case with something like this to help keep a happy balance - daddario/pwHumidification.Page?sid=5a048941-d89f-4ec9-97bd-4b51da7e2912
